Value Creation Consulting Critical For Business Growth

One of my students once asked me if 'value creation consulting means knowing it all?’ I certainly do not think so. But I am not surprised at the questions. I get such question almost everywhere I introduce myself as a value creation consultant. So what is value creation consulting? I think it’s an exciting way to unlock growth opportunities for a business particularly in these very challenging times. It’s about listening attentively to a business owner and helping / guiding them through the issues they may have spotted in their business to a point where they can see the opportunities that lie around and behind the issues and challenges. It’s about working with business owners and their core staff to unlock the opportunities inherent in the issues plaguing them or the industry in which they operate.

We recently worked with a fairly large SME in the event management (agency) industry. The initial brief was to help their core staff understand their job descriptions and how their roles fit into the overall achievement of the goals and objectives of the firm. We patiently listened to owner of the business, spoke with the staff in question and made some recommendations which they found very useful. On the strength of the findings, we organized some business trainings for them and today, they are running full steam and the business is better for it.

Another good example is what we did with Ecobank in Tanzania. The brief was simple and clear, it was about growing low cost deposits. A pitch was called and participants came from advertising, events management, customer development and public relations agencies. It was keenly contested.

We took a simple look at the brief, had a long chat with some of the key players and discovered that the main issue was that of awareness. They needed to create quality awareness. By this we mean, awareness that leads to adoption.

As a value creation agency, we recommended a 6 month promotion which will be supported by a through-the-line campaign to create awareness and drive up adoption. This was accepted and implemented and the result was good. It was so appropriate and practicable that the idea / concept were replicated in all Ecobank markets.

The question would then be – how do you come about the solutions you proffer? There is no magic to it at all. We just listen to our clients and we connect with them at the points of the passion and empathy and this unlocks ideas. This is possible because we have a wide range of credible experience having worked across industries, sectors and disciplines. It takes a trained eye to see beyond the problems to unlock the opportunities inherent in the situation.

We help you do thorough analysis and evaluations gathered through different means and platforms. Insights will jump out. If they are from the market and directly impacting on the consumers, then it makes sense to pursue them. Therein lies the opportunities we are looking for, which if resources are put behind same, will create value in a sustainable manner to the business.

So, value creation simply put is about working with business owners and their core staff to help them see beyond their problems to tap into the opportunities the problems present, to create value for their stakeholders.
